New Forum for Arab and American Journalists to Discuss Media Coverage

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is hosting a new forum for Arab and American journalists to discuss on how media cover and portray each other. The forum is the continuation of the “Bridging the Gap” conference held at the Wingspread facilities (Wisconsin, USA) in December 2005.

The conference gathered twenty-two Arab and American journalists to talk about how they cover each other’s worlds, and how they can do it better. Topics of discussion included stereotypes, misperceptions and bias as well as professional standards or state control of the media.

The Interchange website and listserv have been launched with the aim of fostering discussion. To join the forum, visit: http://www.ijnet.org/Director.aspx?P=SpecialSection&ID=52 or contact interchange@icfj.org.

The site, which offers a variety of resources related to the subject of discussion is currently available in English and will be soon launched in Arabic. Participants in the listserv can write in English or Arabic.
