New Award to Support the Right to Publish

The Switzerland-based International Publisher’s Association (IPA) has created a prize to honor a person, organization or institution that has stand out in defending and promoting the freedom to publish anywhere in the world.

The 5,000 CHF (4,000 USD) International Freedom to Publish Prize will be awarded during the Goteborg Book Fair (Sweden, 21-24 September 2006) in the context of a conference on freedom of expression organized by IPA, the book fair and International PEN.

International professional and non-governmental organizations working in the field of freedom of expression can send their nominations to lars.grahn@nok.se and krikorian@ipa-uie.org. A written document explaining the choice of the nominee must be sent, preferably in English.

IPA, established in Paris in 1896, represents the publishing industry worldwide through 78 national, regional and specialized publishers’ associations in 66 countries. IPA is an accredited NGO enjoying consultative status to the United Nations. It seeks to promote and defend the fundamental freedoms to publish, to read and to write.
