Conferences & Seminars:
Training and Protecting Journalists in the Arab World

The Dutch foundation Free Voice is organizing a conference to discuss strategies for providing professional training and legal protection to independent media in the Arab countries in the Netherlands in June. The “Strategy for Training Journalists and Protection of journalists in the Arab World” conference will be held on 7-8 June in The Hague and will bring together policy makers in the field of media support in the region.

During the conference, the “Investing in the future, Strategy for Training Journalists and Protection of journalists in the Arab World” report will be presented. The report was recently published by Free Voice in cooperation with the Jordanian Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists. The “Strategy for Arab Journalists Capacity Building” plan will be also discussed.

Fadi Al Qadi, representative of Human Rights Watch in the Middle East and North Africa, will speak about press freedom and good journalism in the Arab countries while Mahmoud Abdulhadi from Al Jazeera’s Media Training and Development Center will focus on the influence of the satellite channel in the Arab media. Other participants include Lebanese journalist May Chidiac and Hala Mustafa from the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram.

Free Voice supports independent media in countries in development. It aims at contributing to the democratization processes by promoting freedom of information, pluriformity of the news supply and forming of opinion in the developing world.
