A new center dedicated to journalism training will open its doors in Bahrain in January 2007, CampaignME reported. Established in partnership with the City University of London, the Institute for Journalism will be owned and managed by ten publishers and TV companies from the region.
According to the institute’s director Abdullah Jonathan Wallace, the center aims to fill the needs of a fast-growing media industry for local journalists. Most TV stations and newspapers in the Gulf have to bring staff from outside, Wallace said to CampaignME.
The institute will offer post-graduate diplomas following the same curriculum as its parent school in London. Short courses for working journalists will also be available.
