Dag Hammarskojold Fellowships to Cover the UN's 61st General Assembly

The United Nations is currently offering four fellowships for journalists from developing countries in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America to cover its 61st General Assembly.

Fellows will report from New York from early September to early November for their home media, print or broadcasted. The Dag Hammarskjold fellowships include airfare, accommodation, per diem expenses and health insurance.

There are three fellowships for young journalists between age 25 and 35. They must be full-time professionals working at a recognized print or broadcast media organization and capable to work in English.

A fellowship is also available for a distinguished journalist, editors in chief, deputy editors in chief, senior broadcast producers and others. Aged 35-45, applicants must have 10-15 years of journalism experience with at least three in their current position. An excellent command of written and spoken English is required.

The fellow will be expected to work on and complete an in-depth project or projects during the course of the fellowship.

Deadline is 17 April 2006. The final selection will be made in May.
