CNN Multichoice African Journalism Awards Open to Arab Journalists

Journalists from Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia can participate in the CNN  Multichoice African Journalism Awards, a competition aiming to reinforce the importance of the journalists’ role in the continent and to recognize and develop journalistic talent across all disciplines.

The awards are open to journalists working broadcast, print and electronic media working in Africa for an African-owned and based media outlet. 16 prizes will be awarded for the best works in categories such as sport, economics and business, environment, culture, francophone general news or best photo. Except the television, radio and print journalism general news prizes, every category is open to journalists working in any of the three fields. A Multichoice African Journalists 2006 overall prize will be awarded to a journalist from any outlet. Prizes consist in a state-of-the-art laptop and a substantial cash prize. The overall awarded will receive a further cash prize.

Submitted works will be judged on their balance and clarity, their relevance to audience and their investigative and journalistic flair among other criteria. Works must have been published or broadcast in year 2005. There are no entry fees.

Deadline for applications is 7 March 2006.
