In a step toward coordinating and sharing news, several media organizations and journalists have announced the formation of a new cooperative association, IJNet reported.
The group, called Al-Majmuaa Al-Iraqiya Al-Arabiya lil Ilam Al-Hur Al-Mustaqil, or the Iraqi-Arabic Group for Free, Independent Media. consists mainly of small newspapers, news websites, and individual journalists and lawyers.
The group’s main office is temporarily in Cairo, according to an announcement on its website. The group said it would announce its official launch after its interim managing committee holds a meeting planned for early March.
The group aims to facilitate the exchange of news and advertising content between members. They will create a network through their websites to achieve their mutual goals.
Members of the newly formed media group include the Iraqi News Agency, the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), the Iraqi Al-Safeer newspaper, the Iraqi Journalists Rights Defense Association, the Palestinian Association for Media and Development, and the Kurdish News Agency in Syria, among many others.
