News from the Media Scene:
Middle East Media Guide Available

The 2006 edition of the Middle East Media Guide is available on-line and through outlets in Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman and the UAE.

The guide includes over 2,500 newspapers, magazines and other media outlets as well as advertising and PR agencies, photo libraries, and associated media organizations from 14 countries across the region. It covers Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Ben Smalley, editor of the directory said he wants to include independent circulation audit figures in next editions.

“Editorial and production standards in the regional media industry have generally improved considerably over the past few years, but if publishing here is ever to be considered a mature market, independent circulation auditing must become the rule rather than the exception it currently is,” he said to CampaignME.

“Hopefully it will not be too long before we can list verified circulation figures in the Middle East Media Guide and provide users of the book with accurate data for all newspapers and magazines, rather than having to mostly rely upon the claims of publishers which we have no realistic means of checking,” Smalley added.

The 380-page guide is published by Dubai-based Media Source and is available at http://www.middleeastmediaguide.com/ for AED 100 (US$ 27).
