Iraqi Independent Journalism Network Created

The Iraqi branch of the German-based Unrestricted Writers has created a network to support independent defunct newspapers.

The announce, made on 25 January, said the network aims to provide financial support to independent and serious newspapers that conquered a position among readers while published but had to stop due to financial reasons.

Funds will be searched among Iraqi authorities, international organizations linked to donor countries in Iraq and independent media organizations.

Unrestricted Writers said the Iraqi branch is currently discussing with newspapers the network’s program and plans to hold a special conference as well as launch an international campaign in the near future.

Inspired by the Article 19 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, a group of Arab journalists in Germany formed Unrestricted Writers in April 2005. You can visit them at http://www.kuttab.org.
