New Web Site Translates Arab Newspapers into English

Mideast Wire, a service providing on-line English translation of Arabic-speaking newspapers articles, has been recently launched. The service was started by four journalists, two from the USA and two from Lebanon. It offers extracts from around 40 news items and opinion articles every day, which means around 10,000 words, coming from more than 50 publications from all over the Arab world and Iran.

The core of the service is a daily electronic newsletter for subscribers. The service expects to rely in the future on subscription revenues. Since its creation, Mideast Wire has attracted around 2000 subscribers, including journalists, NGO’s, and sections of the US forces.
