Jordanian News Agency Opens New Training Center

Petra, the state-run news agency of Jordan, opened a new training center on 19 September. The center has been created in cooperation with UNESCO. The director general of Petra, Faisal Shboul, said during the opening ceremony that at the end of the year Petra is expected to expand its news services and use the revenue from selling their services for the development of the training center. The center will offer training for Petra staff as well as other Jordanian Journalists. The first course, covering topics related to freedom of expression in Jordan, was held on 19-21 September. Petra’s cooperation with UNESCO started in 1996 with a series of training courses for staff at Petra, as well as the creation of their electronic archives.
