Middle East: Newspaper Circulation Falling Due to Rising Internet Connections

In three separate surveys of national Middle Eastern newspapers in Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Iraq the BBC reports that the impact of the internet is being felt. The articles mainly focus on competition between papers, press freedom, and circulation difficulties caused by war.

But they also note that in both Saudi Arabia and Israel, the number of internet users has exploded, resulting in significant readership losses in both countries. On the other hand, some papers in war-torn Iraq which have found it difficult to distribute their publications have turned to the internet as a secure source of disseminating their news.
